Following are suggestions for ensuring that your child is successfull in their academic pursuits.
Be In Your Child's Corner
If you are preparing to send your child to college, it is encouraged that you learn the college process early. Keep lines of communication open with your child's teacher and guidance counselor. Research financial aid resources and make sure you are aware of important dates for college application deadlines, standardized tests (SAT), Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any other deadlines that are relevant for your family.
If your child is still in middle school, be involved to show that you are in your child's corner.
Encourage Your Child
Make sure he/she knows that you support him/her. Praise your child when he/she succeeds. Encourage your child when he/she is struggling.
Stay Involved In Your Child's Affairs
Find out what lessons your child is learning in school. Ask questions and help your child with his/her school work. Keep in close contact with his/her teacher.
Develop A Plan
Work together with your child's teacher to build a plan that will help him/her reach his/her goals.
Be Resourceful
Visit local libraries, museums and other places with your child to support their education. Take advantage of school and community programs.
Designate A Quiet Place For Learning
Create a quiet place in your home for your that would be most conducive for her/him to do homework or work on projects. Give your child extra work to help raise expectations.
Don't Give Up
Believe your child can succeed and encourage him/her to believe in him/herself.
